It varies significantly and matters more than people expect. Cancun resorts: 15–30 minutes. Riviera Maya (Akumal, Maroma): 45–75 minutes. Puerto Vallarta: 20–35 minutes. Los Cabos: 25–45 minutes. Huatulco: 15–25 minutes (one of the shortest transfers in the whole portfolio). Punta Cana: 20–35 minutes. Cap Cana: 25–40 minutes. Montego Bay properties: 15–25 minutes. We always factor transfer time into our recommendation — a stunning resort with a 2-hour transfer after a red-eye flight is a different vacation than the same resort with a 20-minute transfer.

Most à la carte restaurants require what Secrets calls “Casual Elegance” after 6 p.m. — for men, that means long pants (dress pants, chinos, or dark jeans are all accepted) and a collared shirt with sleeves; no shorts, tank tops, or flip-flops. For women, it’s sundresses, skirts, or nice pants with dress sandals or shoes. By day, swimwear with a cover-up is fine at the buffet and pool grill, but bring it dry and dressed-down — wet swimsuits aren’t permitted in dining rooms.
