Luxury Blog · Val des Pitons, St. Lucia
A former sugar estate in the valley between the two Pitons, with villas, a calm beach cove and a rainforest spa.
Sugar Beach sits in the Val des Pitons, the only resort located directly between Petit Piton and Gros Piton. For much of its history the land was a sugar plantation. The cane fields are gone, but the stone ruins of the old estate remain on the grounds, and you pass them on the walk down to the beach.
The ruins remain. History, properly framed, is more interesting than anything a landscaper could plant in its place.
Villas, bungalows and the beach
Accommodations are spread across the hillside and down to the water: villas tucked into the trees, many with private plunge pools, and beachfront bungalows a few steps from the sand. The beach is a sheltered cove with the two Pitons on either side, calm enough for easy swimming and snorkeling over the reef just offshore.
The Rainforest Spa
The spa is built into the trees, with treatment rooms raised up in the canopy like treehouses. It is one of the reasons couples choose Sugar Beach over other St. Lucia resorts. Dining is relaxed, with a strong wine program at the beachfront restaurant.
